Skating

General Use Guidelines

  • Children under 12 years of age must be supervised by a person 16 years or older.
  • All patrons must follow the Township of St. Clair Respect and Safe Access Policy.
  • Use of CSA – approved helmets is strongly recommended on all ice surfaces.
  • Participants are responsible for ensuring they are physically fit to participate in the activities.
  • Do not enter the ice surface until the ice resurfacer is off the ice and gates are closed.
  • Participants must follow all instructions provided by arena staff and Skate Patrol.


Public Skate Rules

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, the following rules apply during public skating:

  • No horseplay or games (games permitted only at the discretion of Skate Patrol Staff).
  • No figure skating manoeuvres.
  • Skaters must skate in the same direction as others; no weaving, racing, excessive speed, or skating backwards.
  • No balls, pucks, chairs, pylons, strollers, sticks, or any item that may interfere with skater safety.
  • No sitting on the boards or loitering.
  • The centre of the ice is reserved for beginner/inexperienced skaters only.
  • All accidents or injuries must be reported immediately to Skate Patrol or arena staff.
  • All skaters must wear skates while on the ice surface; no shoes permitted.
  • Wheelchairs are permitted on the ice surface.
  • Wheels must be cleaned before entering the ice.
  • The wheelchair operator must be wearing ice skates.
  • Wheelchairs must stay near the boards and move with skating traffic, unless otherwise permitted by facility staff.


Shinny Hockey Programs

  • All participants must be registered. Specific Family and Adult Shinny rules apply.
  • Only one puck is permitted on the ice.
  • Full equipment including CSA-approved helmet and gloves are required – all other equipment is strongly recommended; participants acknowledge varied ages, skills, & limited equipment use.
  • No body contact, fighting, aggressive behaviour and no slap shots permitted.
  • All spectators must remain in the stands.
  • No on-ice monitoring or refereeing is provided. Participants are asked to self-monitor shift lengths to ensure fair ice time
  • Maximum number of participants: 30 players.


Sticks ’N Pucks Programs

  • Participants must wear CSA-approved helmets and skates.
  • No games are permitted; this session is intended for skill development only.
  • Participants must be registered and paid prior to entering the ice.
  • Always listen to and follow arena staff instructions.

Prohibited Behaviour (All Programs)

The following are not permitted on the ice and may result in removal from the facility:

  • Carrying children (including baby carriers).
  • Use of headsets, cell phones, or handheld electronic devices.
  • Food or drink on the ice.
  • Foul language, rough play, or inappropriate behaviour.
