Moore Museum

Explore the life of the past in the Moore Museum heritage community, which includes a one-room schoolhouse, historic church, blacksmith shop, log cabin, Victorian cottage, railroad station, fire hall and caboose. Discover the work of the land in the agricultural implement building and the lakes with a marine exhibit room and 1890 range light. Don’t forget to check out the Lionel model train exhibit. The travelling display used by the Lionel company to promote their products forms the basis of this exhibit room.  Visitors are able to run the “S”, “O” and “G” gauge trains by push button.  The whole family will enjoy this engaging display!

Sombra Museum

Much like the small community that it is situated in, the Sombra Museum has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The helpful staff are always available to offer assistance whether it be answering questions, giving guided tours, or aiding you with research in the reference room. Come to visit and discover some unexpected surprises about not only our Sombra village, but the other villages of the former Sombra Township, including Port Lambton, Wilkesport, Becher and more!!

Visit a furnished 8-room Victorian home built in 1881. Experience the hominess of the kitchen, and the elegance of the dining room filled with crystal, silver and china. Walk into an old time parlour and music room to learn about entertainment in the past, or dream in a child’s bedroom with period clothing and toys. The master bedroom displays turn of the century personal effects. The gallery displays various themes e.g. Beach Wear, Victorian Fashions, Spinning Textiles.

The Marine Room illustrates the importance of the St. Clair River and Great Lakes to our history through photos and nautical artifacts.

The Reference Room contains archives, census & cemetery records, photos, files on businesses, ships, schools, churches and more. Research by students and public is encouraged any time. Our citizen files are a resource for genealogical research!

An 1830 Log Cabin characterizes the lifestyle of the early Sombra Pioneers.
